US citizens advised to “break a leg in Belgium” – poking fun at ailing US health-care
The Belgian Federal Government recently took a bold step in making us realise that the Belgian Public Health-care system is a unique blend of very high quality care, (relative) low cost and 60 years worth of nationwide solidarity.
The "bold step" was a TV commercial in US English, poking fun at a CNN like station who's reporter actually breaks a leg, in Brussels, Belgium.
If you care to watch:
Belgian social security commercial
(in US English, in Flash from the original nationwide tv commercial)

not that the US system is great or even good for that matter. i wouldnt jump up and scream that the Belgian system is that slick either. my feeling are that it still leaves alot to be desired…
- Try breaking a leg in New York, see how much that will cost you, and how 'slick' it will max-out your credit card
. Belgium, along with several Scandinavian countries, has a suberb healthcare system: all Belgians are 99% covered, with extremely low costs and very high quality. The US has millions of its citizens without basic healthcare: http://www.newyorker.com/fact/content/articles/050829fa_fact "+50 million people uninsured in America.” , all they can do is wait for hours in a public ER room. For 50 million inhabitants the US has an ailing, extremely expensive and failing healthcare system that is based on corporate greed, while the Belgian one is based on 60 years of nationwide solidarity. A concept the US apparently has problems with.]
