YouTube’s “Vote Different” – “Hillary 1984″ hard hitting attack ad

OK, after +1 million views since March 5, “Vote Different” definitely has become a shocker in US politics.

The San Francisco Chronicle calls it “a watershed moment in 21st century media and political advertising.”

The Huffington Post calls the video “powerful evidence that YouTube is a huge game-changer in political campaigns.”

Nordette Adams at Confessions of a Jersey Goddess writes that she has “trouble believing a genuine Democrat or liberal created the video. Portraying Hillary as some kind of all-powerful Big Brother figure reminds me of propaganda spouted against Hillary by conservatives ever since her husband was in office and she proposed health care reform.”

But then, who exactly is trying to “hit dear Hillary” in the powerful “vote different” video?

  1. Not being American, not understanding the finer points of politics there … I always associate anything dirty like this with the Republicans … always.

  2. Well, I seriously doubt that it’s Obama. It would be too obvious and it might affect his ratings. The Internet certainly has a big impact on the upcoming 2008 presidential race. The video may have done by a Obama supporter but I don’t think hat it was orchestrated by Obama or any of his campaign officials.

  3. @Di: well, you’re not alone, the current conservative US rep admin has already won all the dirty tricks awards.
@Joem: like most posters, I was also wondering if it just was an over-zealous Obama supporter(no campaign leader would allow this, ever). Anyway, Hillary is about as liberal as Schwarzenegger, I don’t like her track-record at all.

  4. Recall the stories ‘Obama descended from slave owners’, and ‘Obama was taught in a ‘terrorist madrassa’, both made to appear as if created by the Hillary camp to attack the Obama camp.

Salon suggests its the neo-con dirty tricks brigade at work:

“Performing a dirty trick on one Democratic presidential candidate in a way that would reflect blame on another Democrat was the specialty of the Watergate crew led by Hunt, which back in the early ’70s included G. Gordon Liddy and Donald Segretti, as well as a host of lesser goons and spies such as the ingĂ©nue Lucianne Goldberg.”

They point out that 3 people from the Watergate dirty tricks campaigns are back in action Goldberg, Ailes and Gibson and this is consistent with their former work.

  5. I noticed this this morning and thought I’d drop it off over here :)

I preferred thinking it was the Republicans lol.

  6. Thanks Di ;) This really comes as a surprise: an employee who worked on Obama’s website. I guess they basically both don’t stand a chance getting the Democratic nomination: Clinton is too polarizing while Obama does not appeal to an electorate that has become increasingly conservative over the past few years.
